Lines in the Sand
Plus postage and packing
An anthology of excellent poetry and flash fiction pieces, written by the winners of the Bournemouth Writing Festival’s first competition.
The writing prompt that was given to entrants was Lines in the Sand, so you might have expected to find the usual tropes - ice cream, lovers’ initials traced inside sandy hearts and chip-snatching seagulls - within these pages. Of course, these subjects make an appearance. However, there are also many surprises and delights to be found in these pages, as the writers take the subject of lines in the sand and approach it from a variety of angles.
If you were given the prompt “lines in the sand”, would you have thought to write about seeing an actor shaving, about writing a letter to a future ex-husband or about musing on what happens to vibrators when they are discarded? Would you have written about kleptomania, about a woman standing on her bathroom scales or about a beach in Gaza? Our winners did, and the result is a roller-coaster ride of brilliant prose and poetry. If you’ve ever thought about entering a writing competition, here is the inspiration you need.
We asked the entrants to think outside the box - they did not disappoint!
Please note, if you purchase from us, you will be getting the original printed version of this chapbook, while stocks last. This book will also be available from Amazon on print-on-demand from 26th April 2024.
